Get Blown Away

Today I rediscovered a band that I don’t feel gets enough credit—The Blow. I found myself listening to the album Paper Television on repeat, bobbing to the electronic dance beats and singing along with Mikhaela Yvonne Maricich’s infectious pop vocals. Although the songs are far from epic, the clever lyrics and charming melodies come together to create a simple, engaging sound. The music sounds easy to duplicate—in fact, the first time I heard The Blow I spent the rest of the night in FruityLoops trying to imitate their style to create my own indie pop dance single—but the effortless air created by Maricich, formerly of The Microphones, requires absolute skill. My favorite songs include: “True Affection,” “Pardon Me,” and the Pitchfork praised “Parentheses.” Live performances by The Blow have been said to include monologues and expansive, wild behavior, so I’m hoping the Portland based musician gets some new stuff together and comes back to New York on tour soon.

It will Blow you away!
(I’m sorry… I just couldn’t help myself.)
