Pomplamoose: A Music-Video Inspiration

Pomplamoose

Pomplamoose. This group is amazing. Amazing, amazing, amazing.  The two musicians are Nataly Dawn and Jack Conte, both of whom are incredible musicians on their own, a couple who live together in San Francisco and are experimenting with home-production in music and video.  She sings (a voice similar to Regina Spektor) and he produces (though check out his stuff and you’ll hear he can sing as well) and then the internet is the medium for exposure. I feel like I shouldn’t even go into it further, you should just watch. Start with the video below because everyone loves “Single Ladies” and it’s a good example of what they do.

However, I recommend everything by them, especially the songs “Expiration Date” and “Beat the Horse.” …

The Notorious M.I.L.E.Y.

Can anyone make Miley Cyrus tolerable to those of us born before the First Gulf War? If there is any hope, it lies with Biggie Smalls.

Presenting the Hannah Montana “Party in the USA”/Notorious B.I.G. “Party and Bullshit” mashup:

Thom Yorke and Flea bust a move in L.A.

I don’t really like Radiohead or The Red Hot Chili Peppers–okay, I have soft spots on my playlist for Blood Sugar Sex Magik, OK Computer and The Bends, but that’s it.

It’s funny then, that I could read about Thom Yorke’s side project–featuring Flea on bass–and watch this rather low-fi cover of the Radiohead b-side “Paperbag Writer” and think, ‘man, that’s fuckin’ cool’.

I guess it’s because Yorke and Flea are undoubtedly quite talented, and seeing them in a context stripped of all the HUGE FUCKIN ROCK N ROLL BAND! ephemera of Radiohead and RHCP, respectively, lets you focus on just that talent.

Radiohead Covers Yeah Yeah Yeahs’ “Maps” For A Brief Moment

Radiohead does anything, and we all stop breathing. Or, at least I do. Radiohead covers “Maps” during the intro to “Everything in its Right Place,” and it’s awesome in that weird, music-world-converging sort of way. Also, I would like to crowd surf on an air mattress. That looks rad. Thanks to Quiet Color for pointing this video out.

A few other blogs have posted this, but it’s a musical convergence worth noting. In a strange twist and momentary cover, Thom Yorke includes Yeah Yeah Yeahs lyrics in his intro for “Everything In Its Right Place” at a show in Reading over this past weekend.

Video: “All The King’s Men” – Wild Beasts

Ology partner Electric Mustache brings us the new music video from buzz band Wild Beasts.

Here is video for “All The King’s Men” off of the Wild Beasts’ sophomore album Two Dancers. The album has been receiving a ton of buzz lately and just got the ‘best new music’ nod from Pitchfork. I really enjoy this song in particular and can’t wait to get my hands on the rest of the album.

Surfer Blood

File Surfer Blood under your “Rising” list. Sound Bites has a review of their recent show in NYC.

It’s not very often you go into a show blind and leave wowed but that what my reaction to seeing West Palm Beach, Florida’s Surfer Blood last night at Bruar Falls. I think I was expecting a slightly poppier take on the shambolic noise skuzz that blows through smaller Williamsburg venues these days. But, despite reverbed vocals and echo guitars effects that would sometimes seize and glitch like an episode of Tim & Eric, Surfer Blood make accomplished, hook-filled indie rock with clever arrangements and great harmonies, as performed by four guys who can actually, you know, play. You hear so little music like this anymore from new bands — Seattle’s BOAT come to …

Michael Bloomberg Messes Up 50 Cent’s Name Over and Over Again

The man may have founded the most powerful financial software services company (I consider his mayorship to be secondary to this), but he just can’t seem to get 50 Cent’s name correct. And, it’s hilarious.
