Artist Spotlight: Sonny Sharrock

Jazz guitarist and bandleader Sonny Sharrock (1940 – 1994) has a reputation of being one of the “most underrated” jazz musicians in recent history. If you’re into free jazz, you need to check him out–the style is very progressive and the way he uses his guitar is much more “rock” and “out there” than in standard groups of the past. Playing with feedback and unstructured chaotic melodies, Sharrock’s music pushes the jazz limits. As a fun fact, he also created the soundtrack for the TV show Space Ghost Coast to Coast, which was basically the start for [adult swim]. Thanks, Sharrock. Hope you’re in Jazz Heaven with Miles.
